Slow but powerful, the Merchant is unusual in that they must manage their Zeny in order to perform many of their moves. They come with a slew of attacks that also include supportive tools that makes them self-sufficient as long as they have coin in their pocket.

Important Attributes: STR, AGI and DEX. VIT is niche, but not terrible to have.

Zeny[]

Zeny is a unique resource used by Merchant skills. Playing a Merchant revolves around the collection and spending of money. As you collect more Zeny your attack power goes up, but many of the merchant’s skills involve spending Zeny. Collecting money with Discount and Overcharge is the secret to success as a merchant.

The current Zeny amount is shown near the top-right corner of the screen, next to a gold coin. In multiplayer games, it is shared among players. At the start of a stage, players have 10 Zeny. It has a limit of 99.

Merchant Morale: The Zeny damage bonus is 20% at 99 Zeny. At lower Zeny values, it is 20% x Zeny/99. The damage bonus stacks multiplicatively with other damage factors. The bonus is only for melee attacks

  • All Merchant attacks except Pushcart (summon and falling) and Cart Revolution's thrown cart are melee.

Zeny is acquired by using moves to drop it on the floor, and then walking over the dropped coins. These moves drop Zeny:

  • Discount: 5 Zeny per deflected hit.
  • Overcharge: 1 Zeny per enemy per punch. Merchant-M punches 4 times, while Merchant-F punches 5 times.

Zeny is used for:

  • Drink A Potion (3 Zeny): Heal random amount% of HP.
  • Pushcart (2 Zeny): Summon a cart to follow you. Needed for certain skills.
  • Vending (5 Zeny): Throw many healing Items.
  • Mammonite (10 Zeny): Big attack with large AoE.

Gender Differences[]

Other than the normal differences such as Males having higher HP and Females having higher SP, the most notable uniqueness are:

  • Several skills have different animations and properties, including Mammonite, Cart Revolution, Overcharge, and Discount.
  • Male Merchant has better range, but much slower and less DPS potential, making him more beginner friendly but only if you don't use his skills, because his skills are actually a lot harder to use properly.
  • Male Merchant is very heavy, so he won't jump that high. Moreover, his strongest attack (→+B) sends enemies high up in the air, so it would only hit twice at best against normal enemies, then he might need to use double jump to even reach the airborne targets. Experiment with his combo so you won't waste time chasing enemies who become out of reach because of your own mistakes.
  • For beginner, Male Merchant will appear to do more damage on the ground - which doesn't matter when you know how to play Female Merchant as she will do much more damage with her low air combo.
  • Female Merchant is significantly faster and deals more damage. She's more versatile in almost every way. And her skills are a lot easier to use.
    • Female Merchant's (Air)→+B is still extremely powerful even against short enemies. Because of this, her ground attacks, even when they still do high damage, are laughable when compared to it. You might not want to finish the full circle though. So make sure to cancel it with a regular (Air)B to deal even more damage,
    • Female Merchant's strongest combo against short ground enemies is (Air)→+B, (Air)B twice, then she will land, and you can spam this combo over and over again.
    • For taller or even airborne enemies, Female Merchant can simply alternate between (Air)→+B and (Air)B.

Stats Effect[]

Merchant only, other jobs have some different effects for certain stats.

  • STR: Increases MIN and MAX ATK for physical attack.
  • AGI: Increases animation for every movement and Dodge chance.
  • VIT: Increases max HP, HP regeneration, overall Defense, resistance against Super Armor / flinching.
  • INT: Increases max SP, SP regeneration, overall Magic Attack for all magic attack
  • DEX: More MIN ATK damage. Every 10 DEX , you can chain in a combo another Strong Attack.
  • LUK: Increases Critical attacks
